Signs You Need a New Hot Tub Cover

Lady feeling inside a hot tub

So, you’ve had your hot tub for a little while now. You’re probably well aware of the fantastic benefits that can linger long after you’ve left the luxurious water. In order to preserve and maintain that wonderful spa experience, a high-quality cover is highly recommended. If you purchased a spa cover when you bought your Sundance® Spa or Artesian Spa, you might be curious as to when it will need to be replaced. Keep reading to learn about some of the signs that you need a new hot tub cover!

Material is Deteriorating

If your hot tub cover is deteriorating, that is a definite tell-tale sign that it’s time to upgrade. Do a thorough inspection of the cover. If the vinyl (or any other material) appears to be brittle, is cracking, or has any tears, it’s time for a change. If you purchased your cover many years ago, the sun could have drastically faded the colour or bleached it by now. The deteriorating material can allow for moisture to seep in and damage the cover from the inside out. Once bacteria starts to grow, it’s nearly impossible to fix it.

Does it sound like time to visit the experts at Champagne Spas? Not to worry, you can find a newer version of your exact spa cover, or even decide to switch it up and achieve a whole new look!

Broken Straps, Locks or Other Components

All the working components of your hot tub cover should be in functioning order. If you find that any of the below components are broken or starting to break, it’s time for a new cover:

  • Straps
  • Locks
  • Hinges

Even if you notice that the protective material covering the hinges is starting to wear, that’s a clear-cut sign that moisture may be getting into your cover. Sometimes if caught early enough, this material can be fixed – but not always.

Does it Have an Odour?

The last thing you want is a hot tub that stinks.

Even if you take immaculate care of the spa water, a deteriorating hot tub can easily become the source of an odour. Once water begins to affect the materials within your spa cover, bacteria and other contaminants can begin to grow. They can cause your spa cover to smell musty, moldy, or just downright gross.

If you start to notice a smell, especially while taking the cover off or putting it back on, it might be time to contact the experts at Champagne Spas in California. We have dealerships located in San Diego, Vista, and Mission Viejo.

Structure of the Cover

The structure of the cover is very important. If you start to notice that the cover is sagging in the middle, it probably means that the material inside is becoming too heavy. Chances are, built-up moisture inside is to blame for the added weight of your cover. Once it begins to sag in the middle, this allows rainwater to pool in the center – causing it to sag further.

Make Your Hot Tub Cover Last Longer

Prevent these issues from happening in the first place, or at least from happening for a while, with proper handling and care. Handle your spa carefully, never tug at it with force or throw it to the ground. Gently lift it and place it in a safe place, unless of course you have a cover lifter. A cover lifter will help avoid unnecessary tears in general.

Take care of your hot tub cover during regular spa maintenance. Use a cloth and water to quickly wipe it down, and use any recommended cleansers from Champagne Spas in California, like Cover 303 Protectant that has UV ray protection. Contact us today to learn more about how to care for your hot tub cover and get it to last even longer!
